Bible Study 101

Bible Study 101 coverForeword

In the spring of 1980, I embarked on a fantastic quest to learn as much about God and His Word, the Bible, as I possibly could.  After thirty years, I am still learning.  I am a certain disciple who would like to share some of my findings so that others may be able to understand the Bible for themselves.

There is only one Bible and yet there are more than 2,000 Christian denominations or groups throughout the world.  We all call the Bible, the Word of God, yets very few agree across their own denominational lines.  Ephesians 4:5 states that there is "one Lord, one faith... one God".  God gave us His Word in written form so that there would be no doubt about what He wanted us to know about Himself.  It is God's desire that Christian believers be likeminded.  To do this, we must set aside personal viewpoints and allow God's Word speak for itself.

This undertaking is an introductory guide to aid the reader in his or her quest to know and understand the Bible for themselves.  It is by no means an exhaustive study nor is it intended to be an end all.  It will, however, give the reader a solid foundation on which to study the Scriptures and unlock the truth so that "not a fool should ere therein." (Isaiah 35:8)

Unless otherwise stated, all verses quoted in this study will be from the King James version of the English Bible.  The KJV is the version that has most of the companion research materials to go with it, i.e. concordances, Bible dictionaries, etc. as well as a unique feature not found in other English versions, which I will mention in the study.

I am a product of my studies.  I have read countless volumes and sat at the feet of many great men of God throughout my search.  My bibliography of this work will be minimal.  If I do not give credit to an author or teacher, I apologize now.  What the Scriptures say is the only important thing, not what any man, including myself, may say about them.  I take full responsibility for the content of this study and the only approval or critique I am concerned with is that of my heavenly Father.

II Timothy 2:15:
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workmanthat needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
